All Crown entity chief executives are required by the State Services Commissioner to disclose, each 6 months, details of their expenses, gifts received, and hospitality. The purpose of this disclosure is to demonstrate to New Zealanders that public funds are being spent judiciously and that senior managers are modelling appropriate behaviours.
Standards New Zealand is the trading arm of the Standards Council which operates as an autonomous Crown entity under the Standards Act 1988 and the Crown Entities Act 2004. The Standards Act charges the Standards Council with developing, promoting and facilitating the use of Standards New Zealand solutions to help deliver social and economic benefits, including increased productivity, enhanced market access for producers, and improved consumer safety.
Standards New Zealand is not publicly funded. All of our income is earned from the sale of documents, fulfilment of contracts for service, membership fees, royalty income and interest from bank deposits. In 2011 we expect to earn $8.36 million. While we are not publicly funded we still believe that it is appropriate to disclose our chief executives expenses, gifts received and hospitality offered.
