New Website & Subscription Service Enhance Access

22 July 2005

A major overhaul of the Standards New Zealand website will offer customers a whole new way of accessing and purchasing Standards.

Chief Executive, Rob Steele, said Standards New Zealand is always exploring new ways to add value for customers.

“Feedback from our customer surveys indicated a strong desire for our publications to be more accessible, flexible and functional,” said Mr Steele. “These major new IT initiatives are a direct response to customer needs.”

“The improved webshop and on-line Subscription Service should make it easier for anyone who needs to find and access Standards.”

The webshop revamp includes the following new features:

  • Customers can browse for publications via industry sector, keyword or International Classificiation Code (ICS).
  • Standards cited in legislation can be readily identified.
  • A new shopping cart system will allow customers to search and select multiple Standards in any given order.
  • Customers can search for current, superseded and even withdrawn documents if required.
  • Public comment submissions on draft Standards can be processed electronically, which avoids the hassle of printing forms, filling them in and mailing them back to Standards New Zealand.
  • New on-line Subscription Service – access Standards from anywhere at any time.

Mr Steele said the innovative new Subscription Service will give customers on-line access to required Standards in any given sector or range.

“In the past, Standards have only been available in hard copy or PDF, so organisations have had to purchase a copy for every employee, or buy a limited number to share,” he said.  “Now, customers can simply login via the SNZ website and view Standards at any time, and from anywhere.”

A Subscription Service account can be set up by any organisation or individual wanting to access Standards online.  Rather than paying a set amount for each Standard, the subscription service is based on an annual fee.  Customers choose the number of concurrent users they need, along with the number of Standards, and the fee is established accordingly.

This service will be a one-stop-shop.  Standards will refer to other relevant Standards, and customers will always have access to the latest version of the documents they subscribe to. For example, if a customer subscribes to a 1999 version of a Standard and this is amended in 2005, the new version will be automatically uploaded to that customer’s subscription account as part of the service.
