Risk management Standard seminar series scheduled

Standards New Zealand and the New Zealand Society for Risk Management Inc. are running seminars about applying the international Standard Risk management – Principles and guidelines ISO 31000:2009. The half-day seminars are scheduled for Auckland (12 April), Christchurch (14 April), and Wellington (19 April).

Standards New Zealand General Manager Shona Weller says, 'The seminar series is designed for a wide range of businesses and organisations, including manufacturing, the trades, service providers, Crown entities, and not-for-profits. The series offers organisations a unique opportunity to gain practical insights into managing risk more effectively.'

ISO 31000:2009 provides guiding principles, a generic framework, and a process for managing risk. It also includes 11 risk management principles an organisation should comply with, and a management framework for the effective implementation and integration of these principles into an organisation's management system.

Practical advice and guidance

Standards New Zealand and the New Zealand Society for Risk Management are conducting the Risk management Standard seminar series to provide practical advice and guidance on how to apply the new international Standard.

Seminar speakers and topics include the following.

Geraint Bermingham, a member of the Risk Standards development committee, will explain how ISO 31000 was designed and developed.
Mike Wood, Chair of the New Zealand Society for Risk Management, will lead a practical session on applying the Standard.
Steve Vaughan, Executive Director of the New Zealand Society for Risk Management, will chair all sessions and lead a panel discussion.
Case examples from the public, private, and academic sectors will include (depending on location) Fonterra Cooperative Group Limited, Gisborne District Council, Transpower Limited, Inland Revenue Department, Massey University, Solid Energy Limited, Christchurch City Council, and University of Canterbury.
A panel discussion inviting questions from attendees and a working lunch environment to provide an opportunity for participants to discuss how ISO 31000 can be put to work in their organisation.

Seminar cost per person is $350 plus GST. Discounts apply for Standards New Zealand and New Zealand Society for Risk Management members.
