Vote closes on draft Open XML Standard
Voting closed yesterday on the ballot to adopt the Open XML draft Standard as an international Standard. The draft Standard did not receive the required number of ‘yes’ votes for approval.
‘We welcome this announcement. It provides an opportunity for comments submitted with votes to be discussed at a ballot resolution meeting in February 2008. It also facilitates consideration of merging the draft document with the existing ISO/IEC Standard,’ said Grant Thomas, Chief Operating Officer, Standards New Zealand.
The five-month ballot process was open to International Organization for Standardization/International Electrotechnical Commission (ISO/IEC) national member bodies from 104 countries, including 41 that are participating members of the joint ISO/IEC technical committee, JTC 1, Information technology. Standards New Zealand, as New Zealand’s national Standards body sits on JTC1 and holds the responsibility to vote on behalf of New Zealand.
