New Zealander appointed Secretary-General of ISO

The Geneva-based International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has announced the appointment of New Zealander Rob Steele as their next Secretary-General. 

Rob Steele was the Chief Executive of Standards New Zealand for eight years from June 1999 - May 2007.

'This is a major recognition of Rob Steele’s skills and dedication to international standardisation.  Rob’s success in a worldwide search is an acknowledgment of his capabilities and standing in the international Standards community.  It is yet another significant achievement for our country to have a New Zealander in such an important position.  We look forward to working with Rob to advance New Zealand’s interests at ISO and we wish Rob well in his new role’, said Richard Westlake, Chair of the Board of Standards New Zealand.

Rob will take up his appointment on 1 January 2009.

The Secretary-General of ISO is the chief executive officer of the organisation and manages operations at the ISO Central Secretariat in Geneva. The Secretary-General of ISO reports to the ISO Council.
