International Standard being developed for energy management

Following a stakeholder meeting in 2007, organised by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), it was recommended that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) develop a Standard on energy management.

ISO Technical Committee 242, Energy management, was established in 2008, at ISO. The committee will develop a Standard that specifies requirements for an energy management system, which enables an organisation to take a systematic approach to the continual improvement of energy efficiency and energy performance. The Standard will not state specific performance criteria for energy. The Standard is expected to reach committee draft stage in mid-2009.
