Wind farm noise Standard – review of NZS 6808

The revised wind farm noise Standard NZS 6808 is in its final stages of preparation for approval and will soon be published.

This Standard revises and replaces the 1998 version. The revised NZS 6808 will provide wind farm developers, local authority decision-makers, and communities with clear and robust methods for the prediction, measurement, and assessment of sound from wind farms.

Tackling climate change – ISO international Standards

International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Standards can help fight climate change by providing a basis for ensuring trust, integrity, and effective management in the quantification, measurement, and verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation efforts, as well as practical tools for the development of energy efficiency and alternative energy sources.

These messages were underlined by ISO at COP15, the 15th conference of the parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held 7 to 18 December 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

'The suite of ISO Standards on GHG quantification, measurement, verification, and validation provide a foundation for existing and emerging emission trading schemes and confidence systems,' says ISO Deputy Secretary-General Kevin McKinley.

Comments:  The P6806 committee have now resolved the public comments, and the ballot process concludes at the end of January.  Editing and layout of the publication draft is underway and publication is expected in February 2010.

Comments: Voting on the final version is completed and the Standard is being prepared for publication in late February 2010.  The Resource Management Law Association and the NZ Wind Energy Association are planning seminars in several locations throughout New Zealand in March 2010 to provide a brief overview of wind energy in New Zealand, the revised Standard’s key recommendations, and how the Standard is applied.
