Land development and subdivision Standard – public comment reminder

This is a reminder that the period for public comment on DZ 4404 Land development and subdivision ends on 5 February 2010. Standards New Zealand will then collate all comments for the committee to consider before a final version of the Standard is prepared for the committee to vote on. The expected publication date for the revised Standard is June 2010.

The impetus for the review of NZS 4404:2004 came from requests for changes and updates from the New Zealand Transport Agency, Local Government New Zealand, and a number of individual users of the Standard. The Standard is widely used by territorial authorities, planners, surveyors, and engineers involved in land development.

Auckland City Council adopts new spa pool fencing rule

Auckland City Council has adopted Standard NZS 8500:2006 Safety barriers and fences around swimming pools, spas and hot tubs as its policy for lockable spa pool covers so that owners have the option of not fencing off their spa pools as long as it meet all the conditions contained in NZS 8500:2006 3.10. The council have now implemented a simplified exemption and notification process.

City Development Committee chairperson and Councillor Aaron Bhatnagar says it was a common sense decision to give Aucklanders a straightforward and cost effective way to keep their spa pools safe and comply with the Fencing of Swimming Pool Act 1987.

DZ5826 Pool water quality

This draft Standard covers the essential aspects of the operation and maintenance of pools with a focus on pool water quality criteria including methods of water treatment. It covers all treated fresh water and sea water swimming pools, spa pools, and geothermal pools, during use. It does not cover the maintenance of heating, mechanical, or electrical equipment. The design of swimming pools is covered by NZS 4441.
