Incorporating ecodesign into environmental management systems – guidance on the way

The upcoming ISO 14006 Standard, Guidelines for incorporating ecodesign into environmental management systems, will provide 'how to' guidance on incorporating ecodesign into any environmental, quality, or similar management system.

ISO 14006 is scheduled for publication in July 2010 and will be a new addition to the ISO 14000 series. ISO 14006 will provide guidance for product and service organisations wishing to integrate ecodesign into their ISO 14001-based environmental management systems (EMS), but ISO 14006 is not intended for certification.

The new ISO 14006 will enable ecodesign to be implemented in accordance with ISO/TR 14062:2002 Environmental management – Integrating environmental aspects into product design and development and IEC 62430:2009 Environmentally conscious design for electrical and electronic products.

Summarised from an article by Martic Charter, Daniel Trillos, and Tania Macros in 'ISO Focus+', January 2010.
