Service line transpositions

Energy Safety is concerned about phase and neutral transpositions on domestic service lines causing homeowners to receive electric shocks. The latest event was caused when a service line was moved from overhead to underground and the mains entry box cable terminations were incorrectly connected.
As a result of the transposition a home owner received a minor electric shock.

Energy Safety promotes and monitors the safety of electrical and gas products supplied in the New Zealand marketplace by conducting compliance audits. Energy Safety encourages suppliers and traders behaviour and processes to ensure the safe supply and use of electrical and gas products.
Energy Safety works with the market across the distribution chain to promote greater industry and public awareness of product safety and enforces compliance. This includes issuing 'Warning Notices' and 'Infringement Notices', or taking prosecutions as appropriate.

[more]Smart grid – proposed IEC standardisation roadmap

The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) prepares and publishes international Standards for all electrical, electronic, and related technologies collectively as 'electrotechnology'. The Electricity Engineers Association, through Standards New Zealand, is a member of the New Zealand IEC Committee.
The IEC established a Smart Grid Strategic Group tasked by the IEC Standardization Management Board to review the standardisation needs of Smart grids and the IEC Smart Grid Standardization Roadmap has been released for comment. Once finalised, the roadmap will serve as the action plan guiding the different IEC Technical Committees in the development of smart grid across the world.
