Fireguards for fires and heating appliances for domestic use – revised Specification

The revised Fireguards for fires and heating appliances for domestic use – Specification BS 8423:2010 provides requirements and test methods for fireguards for heating appliances that use organic fuel or electricity, and that can be used in an open area, against or on a wall, or within a recess. The fireguards specified are intended to:

  • protect people from falling into a fire
  • prevent burns
  • reduce the risk of injury, particularly to young children and the infirm
  • reduce the risk of fire resulting from clothing and/or other flammable materials coming into contact with, or in proximity to, burning fuel and/or hot surfaces.

Comments: Following the review of public comment submissions, the project was on hold while Standards New Zealand worked with committee members and funders to plan the remainder of the project. The draft Standard's scope has been reduced to only cover fire-resistant doorsets. The draft will be updated with the relevant public comment submissions, and will proceed to postal ballot. The draft will also be distributed to those who provided submissions during the public comment period.
