International interoperability Standards – New Zealand Secretariat of ISO/TC 46/SC 4

Standards New Zealand holds the secretariat for and co-funds the ISO subcommittee ISO/TC 46/SC 4 'Information and documentation – Technical interoperability' with the National Library of New Zealand (NLNZ). The subcommittee develops international Standards that facilitate interoperability of, and ease of access to, library and related systems, services, and databases, such as information centres, indexing and abstracting services, archives, museums, and publishers.

Compliance in the public sector – feedback requested on draft guide for compliance agencies

A draft document Achieving Compliance – a guide for compliance agencies in New Zealand (the Guide) is available for comment until 14 March 2011. The Guide aims to improve performance and productivity across the compliance sector by identifying core principles and good practices for compliance. The Guide will be published as a free on-line resource in mid-2011 and will be regularly updated to reflect best practice.

Improving learning services – new education and training Standard

A new ISO Standard aims to improve the quality of offerings on the global market that has grown up around non-formal education and training, such as vocational training, life-long learning, and in-company training. Learning services for non-formal education and training – Basic requirements for service providers ISO 29990:2010 will also enhance transparency and allow comparison on a worldwide basis of learning services.

Reliability of systems and equipment – new Standard

Reliability of systems, equipment and components – Guide to the demonstration of dependability requirements – The dependability case, BS 5760-18:2010, provides a description of the principles of a dependability case and guidance on its content and application in systems engineering.

Project management principles and guidelines – new Standard

Project management – Principles and guidelines for the management of projects BS 6079-1:2010 will help organisations to achieve a desired outcome on a project, efficiently and effectively. BS 6079-1 covers the management challenges encountered in different project environments and presents possible approaches to these.

Global Quality Management System Standards – ISO survey

ISO global Quality Management System Standards (QMS) are used by over one million organisations (ISO 9001). ISO Technical Committee (TC) 176, a group of global experts on quality management that writes these Standards, is running a survey on these QMS Standards.

New requirements – auditing of management systems and auditor competence

The second edition of ISO/IEC 17021 sets new requirements for the auditing of management systems and for auditor competence, to increase the value of management system certification to public and private sector organisations worldwide.

New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards 2010 – 2011

Entries are now open for the 2011 New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards, with three new categories: Vodafone Most Innovative Technology from an Emerging Market (2011 – Mobile Technologies); TechNZ Hi-Tech Start-up of the Year 2011; and a special category to recognise the Hi-Tech Company of the Decade (2001 to 2010), sponsored by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise.
