A new Interim Standard has been published – Safety verification of existing gas installations, NZS 5255(Int):2011.
'For some years the New Zealand gas industry has lacked a suitable way to evaluate the safety of existing and imported gas installations where no gasfitting certification certificate exists', says John De Bernardo, committee Chair. 'NZS 5255(Int) provides a clear process for industry to inspect and verify the safety of these installations against the existing gas installation Standards NZS 5261:2003 Gas installation and AS/NZS 5601:2010 Gas installations Parts 1 and 2'.

Energy Safety is reminding users and hirers of their responsibilities under the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations 2010, for ensuring the safe use of LPG turbo heaters. Turbo heaters are very high heat space heaters which burn LPG and other fuels. They are primarily intended for temporary use in large commercial or industrial sites but may also be used to heat large public spaces.

In a first-time-ever move, the LPG Association, the Gas Association of New Zealand (GANZ) and the New Zealand Institution of Gas Engineers (NZIGE), are putting together a 'Gas New Zealand Industry Forum'. The forum is relevant to a broad cross section of gas industry participants and will be held from October 19 to 21 2011 in Taupo.

Provides specific information for assessing the safety of existing gas installations, including checklists and appropriate means of achieving and demonstrating compliance. The intention of this Standard is to provide a consistent procedure, suitable for citation in the Gas (Safety and Measurement) Regulations, for assessing and reporting the condition of installations.
