The winners of the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards were announced on 1 December 2011. Awards were presented by Hon Maurice Williamson in his capacity as Minister for Building and Construction, the Hon Dr Nick Smith, and Green Party Co-leader Russel Norman.

Initiated in 2005, the New Zealand Engineering Excellence Awards are the premier awards for the engineering professionals of New Zealand. The awards are presented in two areas: Awards Recognising People, that acknowledge leadership, innovation, entrepreneurship, and our young engineers; and Project and Product Awards, which attest to achievement in the various industry areas, together with a Supreme Award, sponsored by Standards New Zealand, for the best of the Project and Product winners.

Project and Product Awards

  • Supreme Award for Engineering Excellence – Tauranga Harbour Link: New Zealand Transport Agency, Beca, URS New Zealand Ltd, and The Fletcher Construction Company Ltd
  • Building and construction winner – Air New Zealand Nelson Hangar: Mainzeal Property and Construction Ltdand Aurecon
  • Energy and systems winner – Nga Awa Purua Geothermal – Steam Separation System: Sinclair Knight Merz
  • Mechanical and manufacturing winner – Ovine Auto Processing Systems Development: Milmeq Ltd
